Job Description

What you'll do at OhioMHAS:

Acts as lead worker (e.g., provides work direction & training to other activity therapists & employees involved in the therapy of patients) & plans, conducts, implements & monitors fitness & exercise programs (e.g., provides instruction & feedback on proper technique & monitors progress; develops well rounded curriculum for recovery from chronic diseases & improve cardiovascular function, body composition & flexibility) for patients; interviews & assesses patients for fitness development (e.g., conducts health assessments & fitness testing, analyzes patient's medical history to determine best possible regimen for a variety of human performance goals, determines techniques & best practices for safe movement & human motion, assists patients with developing or regaining strength & improving coordination);

Works collaboratively with Activity Therapy staff to provide additional AT services to patients as scheduled on the monthly schedule, including on & off-ground activities, special events, etc.

Participates & attends weekly Treatment Team meetings & participates in overall treatment planning process: gathers data & develops individual goals & objectives designed to improve function, body composition & flexibility; evaluates response to treatment & modifies treatment goals & strategies as indicated; collaborates with treatment team members, dietitian, & dietary staff on nutritional meal plans to support exercise & mobility functions; provides groups & instructional items related to health & fitness wellness; completes incident reports as needed; serves in instructional capacity for patients, staff, students &\or volunteers.

Attends conferences, &/or training sessions (e.g., Crisis intervention, CPR, Fire Safety, etc., consults with members of activities therapy department regarding matters of mutual concern; attends staff, in-service &/or workshop meetings) & performs various work-related tasks (e.g., maintains clean, safe & functioning work areas; preparing & maintain related equipment; oversees supply storage, issuance & maintenance; continuously & proactively assesses environmental situations, organization policies & procedures & staff, patient, & visitor behavior for situations that could pose risks to patients, staff, or visitors & reports them appropriately; performs other duties as assigned

This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of #27 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. Normal working hours are 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with some weekends. This position is located within our Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare Campus at 100 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701.

Unless required by any applicable union contract and/or requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, the selected candidate will begin at Step 1 of the pay range schedule listed above, with an opportunity for pay increase after six months of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.

Additional Salary / Appointment Information:

Must be able to complete a 4 week (business days Monday-Friday) full time orientation

May work weekends and holidays; may be exposed to communicable diseases and unpredictable patient behavior

Training and development required to remain in the classification after employment

Qualifications

Completion of associate degree in recreational area; 24 mos. exp. in activity therapy or recreation.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in recreation area (e.g., physical education); 12 mos. exp. in activity therapy or recreation.

-Or 12 mos. exp. as General Activities Therapist 1, 44211.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
